Mechanical Seals
Also known as Rotary Face Seals, these are one of the most misunderstood, yet brilliant seals ever designed. They are almost always found in centrifugal pumps and can be configured into very advanced capabilities using technology that utilizes double seal arrangements and barrier systems.
Though these seals are considered fragile they are actually much more durable than they appear. Lapped to within 1 to 3 light bands some designs can rotate up to 10,000 ft./m. Faces are made of dissimilar materials such as ceramic, carbon, tungsten carbide as well as alpha-sintered and reaction-bonded silicon carbides to provide "leak free" service. Use them in everything from water to aggressive acids and temperatures ranging from cryogenics to hot oils up to 1000°F plus. True, the materials used in their construction are susceptible to damage if not handled properly. But that’s why we offer in our video vignette titled, Mechanical Seal Handling and Storage, training to eliminate the potential for handling errors.
If you are an existing customer, you know that we offer on-site technical training including installation procedures. If you have not already asked us for this, please do so today.
